To all parents and carers.
Good afternoon, from LCS.
I hope you all had a relaxing holiday and I would like to wish you all a very happy 2025.
Students have returned this week with a positive attitude and it has been good to see them all back again, for the start of the new term.
An early reminder that this half-term will finish for students on Thursday 13th February, as Friday 14th February is an INSET Day for staff.

Services Marketplace
On the afternoon of 21st January, we will be hosting our second annual Services Marketplace. This event is for local children’s and families services to promote their work in the community and to make parents and carers aware of the services and support they offer.
Parents/carers wishing to visit us during this event will have time to meet and talk with different service providers and a large number of local services will be represented; please see attached poster, for further details.
Booking in advance is not necessary, but please arrive no earlier than 3pm and please only use the main Pastures Hill entrance if you are planning to attend. The event is in the Main Hall, which can be accessed from the pedestrian entrance and car park, by following the signs for school Reception.
This event has proved very helpful to parents, carers and families in the past and we hope it will attract similar interest this year.
University of Derby – Saturday Club
Our friends at the University of Derby have asked us to again promote their excellent Saturday Club, which will start from 25th January.
Many LCS students have attended Saturday Club in the past and have found it to be a valuable and very enjoyable experience.
Please read the message below, if you are a parent/carer of a student between the ages of 13 and 16.
I would like to ask for your support in offering the young people within your school community the opportunity to take part in a FREE extracurricular creative education programme hosted by the University of Derby where our Club members will take part in our Society & Change Club.
The National Saturday Club programme is open to 13–16-year-olds of all abilities (Years 8, 9, 10 & 11) and in particular works to engage those who may face additional barriers to success. It’s a unique model and taking part can be a transformational opportunity.
We are recruiting young people ready for our programme which begins in January 2025.
Activities include, going to Derby Theatre, producing music with Baby People, creative activities with ArtCore, designing illustrations with Derby Book Festival and much more! All of the activities are free and fully supported by qualified staff.
Club dates:
25 January 2025 – 12 July 2025
Saturdays, 10:00 – 13:00
University of Derby - Kedleston Road
For more information see the attached promotional resources and please encourage students to register their interest via this link: https://saturday-club.org/club/university-of-derby/
Thank you, as always, for your support of our school, our students and our staff.
I aim to continue with my regular updates throughout this term, but please also check our website and social media pages for news and updates of school events.
Keep safe.
