To all parents and carers.
Good afternoon, from LCS.
School Opening
I would like to apologise to all parents/carers for the partial closure of school today and the disruption this will have caused for you.
As my email update from yesterday suggested, we were expecting snow overnight, but we were not anticipating that a closure of school, either full or partial, would be required. As soon as we arrived on site this morning, however, it was clear that it would not be safe to open to all students and I was already aware of other schools closing across the city. The partial opening of school to Year 11 and Sixth Form was the only sensible decision we could have made today, under the circumstances.
Our fantastic Site Team have spent all day clearing the school site of as much snow as possible and all paths, access roads and social areas are now clear.
We are planning to open school for all students tomorrow, but temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing overnight and I need to give our Site Team as much time as possible tomorrow morning to assess site safety, before opening to students.
I am asking all students, including Sixth Form, not to arrive to school tomorrow morning until 8-50am. Students will then go straight to Period 1, where they will be registered. All lesson timings for the rest of the school day will then be as normal.
I am hoping that we will return to normal timings of the school day by Thursday.
For the rest of this week, I would advise all students to wear appropriate footwear for the conditions, so our usual rules around wearing of school shoes will be suspended until next Monday. All other school uniform rules remain unchanged.
I would not expect a further announcement to be made tomorrow morning, unless the plan outlined above changes, but please check for emails, text messages and social media messages before the start of school tomorrow, just in case.
If no further communications are sent, please send your child(ren) to school for 8-50am tomorrow.
Thank you again for your understanding and support today.
