J Wilding - Announcement

December 5th, 2024 | 3 minute read

To all parents and carers.

I am writing today to inform all parents, carers and members of our wider school community that I will be leaving LCS at the end of this academic year and, therefore, will be resigning from my post as Headteacher, from 31st August 2025.

Governors have been aware of my intention to leave LCS since February this year and school staff were informed in June, but were asked to respect my wishes to make my decision public in my own time.

I have informed all school students of my situation, in an Assembly this morning.

This current academic year is my 25th at Littleover Community School, after initially joining as Head of Year 10 in September 2000. When I first joined LCS I had no intention of remaining at the school for as long as I have and did not think, for a second, that I would be leaving the school as Headteacher after spending almost half of my life here. This school has been good to me and has given me a lot, but I have also given a lot of myself to the school, and I feel that now is the right time to move on to new challenges, while I am still young and healthy enough to do so.

I have been privileged to work with some fantastic staff over the last 25 years at LCS, but the reason I have remained as long as I have is due to the incredible young people who attend the school and the unforgettable experiences I have had working with them. I hope that my successor as Headteacher can enjoy the same working relationships I have had at LCS over the last 25 years and I know I am leaving behind a school in a strong position, for someone to take on to the next stage of its development and success.

As well as my work with staff and students at LCS, I have also been privileged to be part of the progress schools across the city of Derby have made in my last 6 years as Headteacher, despite the significant challenges facing us all across the region and country as a whole. Derby has some excellent schools and outstanding school leaders, who I know will continue to work together for the collective benefit of all our young people.

The post of Headteacher will be advertised over the next two weeks and interviews are currently planned for early in the Spring Term, 2025. When there is more news on the appointment of a new Headteacher to LCS, you will all be informed. From now until the end of this academic year, however, it is business as usual.

Best wishes.
