Sociology

Sociology is the study of society. Sociologists want to understand how the groups we belong to affect our behaviour.

We ask questions such as: What types of FAMILY are there? Why do some groups do better in EDUCATION than others? Why do some people commit more CRIME than others? Who is most likely to experience POVERTY?
We learn how noted sociologists such as EMILE DURKHEIM, MAX WEBER and KARL MARX have tried to answer such questions and what research methods they used.
We consider some of the main sociological theories such as FUNCTIONALISM, MARXISM and FEMINISM and how they have helped develop our understanding of society.

Sociology is an excellent subject for those interested in the news and current affairs, and for anyone who wants to work with people as a career.
